August 2026 Documents

This month’s selected texts are three letters written between 1775 and 1781 reflecting perspectives on the relations between the colonies and Great Britain. The first comes from Elizabeth Trapier in August 1775, the second letter from Gabriel Manigault, a South Carolinian studying abroad in the 1770s, and the third from Samuel Prioleau, a prisoner of war, to his wife Katy in 1781.
