Join us for an exclusive viewing of artwork by renowned Charleston Renaissance artist Elizabeth O’Neill Verner. Working with the Verner family, the society is honored to offer the work of Verner for purchase, including twelve original etchings and three paintings, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit the society’s mission “to expand, preserve and make accessible our collection; to improve knowledge of and encourage focus, interest and pride in the history of our state.”
Charleston historian and author of Renaissance in Charleston: Art and Life in the Carolina Low Country, 1900-1940, Porgy and Bess: A Charleston Story, and Mr. Skylark: John Bennett and the Charleston Renaissance, Harlan Greene, Scholar-in-Residence at the College of Charleston, will provide a short overview on Verner’s life, her role in the Charleston Renaissance, and how she shaped Charleston history.
Guests will enjoy mimosas, a private opportunity to tour the society’s museum in the historic Robert Mills’ Fireproof Building, and view these unique, signed pieces of art.
