Fall Program in York County

Join us in York County for our Fall Program on Saturday, October 25th. The day will include a tour of the archives at the Historical Center of York County, a Lunch & Learn lecture, and a tour of Historic Brattonsville.

Schedule:

10:00am-11:30am- Tour of the archives at the Historical Center of York (due to capacity, these tours will be staggered beginning at 10:00am. Please select your preferred time slot during registration). The Historical Center of York County opened in 1989 to serve as the repository for York County court records and to collect and preserve the cultural heritage of York County and the Carolina Piedmont. In 1990, a major donation of family genealogies compiled by Joseph E. Hart Jr. helped establish the current archival collection. Since its creation, the collection has grown to include family papers, historic photographs, business records, local newspapers, rare books, and church records. 12:00pm- Lunch & Learn at Historic Brattonsville with a lecture presented by Joseph Mathis, a Park Ranger at Cowpens National Battlefield. The Battle of Cowpens was a defining moment in the Revolution and it happened in South Carolina. Learn more about Cowpens National Battlefield by clicking here.

2:00pm- Self-guided tours of the buildings and sites at Historic Brattonsville. Historic Brattonsville presents the history of the Scots-Irish and African-Americans in the South Carolina upcountry through preserving and interpreting the buildings and stories of the Brattonsville community. Featuring more than 30 historic structures from the 1760s to the late-19th century, the site provides visitors with an opportunity to see the evolution of Southern culture and architecture in the Carolina Piedmont.
