*The SCHS Reading Room in the Addlestone Library will close at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 21, 2017 for NASA’s  broadcast of the solar eclipse from the College of Charleston.

The South Carolina Historical Society Archives is located on the third floor of the Addlestone Library on the campus of the College of Charleston (205 Calhoun Street).

Directions:
Follow Interstate 26 east to the end and take the Meeting St./Visitor Info exit. Turn right onto Meeting Street. Turn right onto Calhoun Street at Marion Square. The Addlestone Library will be on the left at the corner of Coming and Calhoun Streets.

Parking:
The SCHS Archives in the Addlestone Library at the College of Charleston is located in close proximity to a variety of parking options. Click here for a diagram of parking facilities nearby.

Accessibility:

Directions:
Follow Interstate 26 east to the end and take the Meeting St./Visitor Info exit. Turn right onto Meeting Street and continue for approximately 1.5 miles. The Fireproof Building, headquarters of the South Carolina Historical Society, will be on the left at the corner of Meeting and Chalmers Streets, one block north of Broad Street. Find us using MapQuest or Google Maps.

Parking:
The Fireproof Building does not have its own parking facility. Metered street parking is available in the surrounding area, and the city operates several public parking garages in the vicinity. Parking is also available in the Charleston County garage on the west side of Meeting Street next to Hibernian Hall.

Accessibility:
The South Carolina Historical Society headquarters welcomes visitors with physical or mobility limitations. However, our main entrance is currently located on the main level of the historic Fireproof Building, and the building does not have an elevator. If you have a handicap that prohibits you from climbing our staircases, please contact a member of our staff in advance of your visit to make an appointment.

Closures:
SCHS headquarters may be closed or its hours altered in the event of federal holidays, special programs, or weather emergencies. Although the SCHS headquarters may be closed, the collection may still be available for research in the SCHS Reading Room in the College of Charleston’s Addlestone Library. Please confirm before planning your visit.

Groups:
Group visits to the Fireproof Building must be arranged in advance. If you have a large group interested in visiting the archive, we also appreciate some advance notice so that we might make your visit as productive and engaging as possible.
